2010-2011 ALL-STAR COMPETITIVE DANCE TEAM INFORMATION Register now for the 2010-2011 teams! The first auditions were held on SATURDAY, MAY 22ND A second audition will be held on SATURDAY, JULY 31st for anyone who was not able to attend the first audition or who would like to be reassessed. Expressions Academy All-Stars All-Stars are multi-award winning competitive dance teams for experienced and advanced dancers who wish to further their dance training. Teams perform in a Jazz, Hip Hop and/or Lyrical routine at many local events within the Seminole community, including the studio’s end of the year recital, and compete at a minimum of two competitions a year. Dancers will be provided with a costume and accessories to be used for competition, the recital and any additional performances. Dance teams are listed below by age, skill, and genre. Dancers may audition for multiple teams. Mini All-Star Hip Hop Team The Mini All-Star Hip Hop Team is a competitive dance team for experienced Hip Hop dancers ages 6-10. Prior competitive experience is helpful, but NOT required. Mini Hip Hop dancers will perform and compete in a Hip Hop routine. This team meets on Thursdays from 4:00-4:45 p.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Hip Hop. (Note: Dancers who are on the Hip Hop team as well as on a Jazz team do not have to enroll in Hip Hop unless deemed necessary by the team instructor). All-star Hip Hop Trio The All-Star Hip Hop Trio is a competitive dance team for Intermediate Hip Hop dancers ages 10-15. Dancers will perform and compete in a Hip Hop routine. This team meets on Saturdays from 11:00-11:50 a.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Hip Hop. Jr. Prep All-Star Hip Hop Team The Jr. Prep All-Star Hip Hop Team is a competitive dance team for experienced Hip Hop dancers ages 8-13. Prior competitive experience is helpful, but NOT required. Jr. Prep Hip Hop dancers will perform and compete in a Hip Hop routine. This team meets on Thursdays from 6:00-6:50 p.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Hip Hop. (Note: Dancers who are on the Hip Hop team as well as on a Jazz team do not have to enroll in Hip Hop unless deemed necessary by the team instructor). Jr. Prep All-Stars Jazz Team The Jr. Prep All-Star Jazz Team is a competitive dance team for experienced Jazz dancers ages 8-13. Prior competitive experience is helpful, but NOT required. Jr. Prep Jazz dancers will perform and compete in a Jazz routine. This team meets on Thursdays from 7:00-7:50 p.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Ballet and/or Jazz (as deemed necessary by the team instructor). Junior All-Stars Jazz Team The Junior All-Star Jazz Team is a competitive dance team for advanced Jazz dancers ages 9-13 with prior competitive experience. Junior Jazz dancers will perform and compete in a Jazz routine. This team meets on Tuesdays from 4:00-4:50 p.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Ballet and Jazz. Junior All-Stars Lyrical Team The Junior All-Star Lyrical Team is a competitive dance team for advanced Ballet, Jazz and Lyrical dancers ages 9-13 with prior competitive experience. Junior Lyrical dancers will perform and compete in a Lyrical routine. This team meets on Tuesdays from 5:00-5:50 p.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Ballet and Jazz. Junior All-Stars Hip Hop Team The Junior All-Star Hip Hop Team is a competitive dance team for advanced Hip Hop dancers ages 9-13 with prior competitive experience. Junior Hip Hop dancers will perform and compete in a Hip Hop routine. This team meets on Wednesdays from 5:00-5:50 p.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Hip Hop. (Note: Dancers who are on the Hip Hop team as well as on a Jazz or Lyrical team do not have to enroll in Hip Hop unless deemed necessary by the team instructor). Senior All-Stars Jazz Team The Senior All-Star Jazz Team is a competitive dance team for advanced Jazz dancers ages 14-18 with prior competitive experience. Senior Jazz dancers will perform and compete in a Jazz routine. This team meets on Tuesdays from 6:00-6:50 p.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Ballet and Jazz. Senior All-Stars Hip Hop Team The Senior All-Star Hip Hop Team is a competitive dance team for advanced Hip Hop dancers ages 14-18 with prior competitive experience. Senior Hip Hop dancers will perform and compete in a Hip Hop routine. This team meets on Saturdays from 10:00-10:50 a.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Hip Hop. (Note: Dancers who are on the Hip Hop team as well as on a Jazz or Lyrical team do not have to enroll in Hip Hop unless deemed necessary by the team instructor). Senior All-Stars Lyrical Team The Senior All-Star Lyrical Team is a competitive dance team for advanced Ballet, Jazz and Lyrical dancers ages 14-18 with prior competitive experience. Senior Lyrical dancers will perform and compete in a Lyrical routine. This team meets on Saturdays from 11:00-11:50 a.m. Dancers on this team are also required to enroll in Ballet and Jazz. Team Tuition & Fees Tuition $50/month (Includes one team class only) Each additional class or team class is $40/month Commitment Fee $165- Due PRIOR TO FIRST TEAM CLASS is NON-REFUNDABLE. (Viewed as commitment to the team for the entire season & includes the entry fees for two competitions.) *Note: A commitment fee must be paid for EACH team a dancer is on. Audition Fee $25- Due prior to the audition & is NON-REFUNDABLE. New Team Dancer Fee $150 (Team bag, jacket, & warm-up pants) Due by August 15th & is NON-REFUNDABLE. DISCOUNTS FOR TEAM DANCERS: Vocal Classes are available to Team Members at just $20/month. Regional Competitions All teams will attend a minimum of two regional competitions a year. Competitions are typically between January-May. We will post the competition schedule as soon as it is made available to us (dates are usually known by August and full competition schedules are usually posted by the week prior to competition). Competitions are a fun learning experience. Routines are adjudicated by competition judges and high score awards are given. Conventions Conventions are large dance workshops that provide an excellent learning opportunity for dancers. Dancers will receive intense training in various classes (Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Lyrical, etc.) by top instructors and choreographers in a fun, large group atmosphere. A typical convention weekend includes check-in and a Teacher’s Showcase on Friday evening, classes from 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. (with a break for lunch and sight-seeing) during the day on Saturday, a talent competition Saturday night, and a few additional classes and check-out on Sunday. Conventions are a lot of fun and give the dancers a unique experience to learn different styles and choreography. Costs for conventions are typically $150-$250/dancer and include hotel accommodations. There are usually observers fees for anyone wishing to come but just watching the classes. Conventions are NOT mandatory for team dancers to attend. Auditions All dancers, new and returning, are required to audition for team each year. 2010-2011 All-Star Team Auditions will be held on Saturday, May 22nd. There will be a second audition held on Saturday, July 31st for anyone who can not attend the first audition or who would like to be reassessed. Dancers interested in auditioning should complete and submit the application below. There is an audition fee of $25.00 which is non-refundable and must be received prior to the audition. To pay the audition fee, click here PAY ONLINE. Once your application and audition fee have been received, you will receive a confirmation email, confirming your audition time. Dancers should arrive for their audition ten to fifteen minutes early to warm-up. Appropriate dance attire and shoes should be worn. During the audition, dancers will be asked to demonstrate various technique to the best of their ability. They will also be given a short routine to learn and perform. Dancers will be judged on technique, execution, precision, showmanship, and the ability to learn and take correction. Dancers will be notified of their placement on team within one day of the audition (results will be posted on the website under dance teams).
